First of all, thank you, again, to all of you who have responded to our annual donation drive. Responses have been wonderful and greatly appreciated. The information you are supplying on the response cards is being entered into our system and updating our response books within our apparatus. We do not and will not share this information with anyone. We collect this data to better our response to you in the event of a fire emergency.
Your donations are enabling us to replace worn and out-dated firefighting equipment. This Chief believes as the others before me have: provide the firefighters with the best gear possible to protect them and enable them to perform their best. Safety is top priority at LVFD and our personal protective equipment is a key factor. We are purchasing new structural firefighting coats, pants, helmets and other equipment to complete the personal protective equipment ensemble. We have researched the various types and brands of equipment available and have selected a manufacturer that we believe provides the best product available at a cost we can afford and our donors should be proud of. We expect to begin using this new gear around mid-September.
Your donations will also be going towards the purchase of a new or newer brush truck. Our brush trucks are four-wheel-drive trucks outfitted with firefighting pumps, water tanks, and equipment that allow us to tackle fires in places ranging from your back yard to fields to the hills of Milton. We currently have two of these trucks that have served us well, but the oldest of the two is a 1986 Ford F350 that is no longer as reliable as we prefer it to be. This old truck is finding itself on the repair racks more and more often because it is just worn out after twenty-three years of service. We prefer to have a truck that can reliably respond to call after call to our citizens and neighbors. As soon as funds are available, we will begin the process of searching for a new or newer truck to replace our old Ford. Costs are estimated to be between twenty and thirty-five thousand dollars. As always, we are committed to being good stewards of your donations and we will carefully select a truck that will be safe, reliable, and something our communities will be proud of and can trust to be there for them in the event of an emergency. More money is needed, though, before this process can begin. I'll keep you posted on this site on our progress.
Thank you, again, to everyone who supports us through attendance at our fish fry and donations. We are here for you but couldn't be here without you. Please feel free to contact me at trey@lascassasvolfire.com or my Assistant Chief, Roger Moses at roger@lascassasvolfire.com should you have any questions or concerns regarding your Lascassas Volunteer Fire Department.
